Seasonal Growth by Kamana Dan CorcoranThe wind is picking up. Earlier today it was sunny, warm, and calm. But no longer. The sky has morphed into dark and foreboding. Spring is a dramatic time of year. The only constant is change. At the Spring Equinox my sit spot revealed an open profile. Views into the surrounding forest were abundant. Now there is a wall of green that surrounds me. Each day yields rapid growth and change. The animal activity has changed as well. New birds arrive to our areas to feed and breed. Juvenile mammals are being kicked out of their parent's territory to make room for the next generation. Insects come out of dormancy to start another cycle. While the external growth of our sit spots and the accompanying flora and fauna is amplified, what is the change that is happening within? Do you feel a difference inside of you? How has your energy changed in the last two months? For me, there is more of a desire to be out in the elements. I want to explore areas of the forest I haven't been before. I want to engage with the mountains where the seasons are shorter and the intensity of growth is even more pronounced. I want to sleep out of doors, with the sounds of the night engulfing me. A phrase keeps coming to me as the season unfolds: Carpe diem. Seize the day. Make each moment count. Are you doing what you love? Are you following your bliss? While we don't have new shoots and leaves to physically display our growth, it is still present. Change will happen whether you direct it or not. I encourage you to orient it in the direction that you want. |
